In this article we will examine some value prop plays at the running back position. Last year, Kareem Hunt led the NFL in rushing yards. Pretty sure he was probably a “FIELD” bet last year as he wasn’t even the starter going in to camp. Lesean McCoy at 28/1 would’ve been good value until he derailed his career with these domestic violence allegations. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite values:

Le’Veon Bell +455
I have to imagine this is the last season in Pittsburgh for Bell unless the unthinkable happens. So, with that in mind, I’d imagine this as a sort of “FUCK YOU” season where he could explode for 1800 yards because some franchise is going to pay dearly for that. He is skipping camp so let’s hope he stays in top physical shape wherever the heck he is. Not the greatest value of the upper tier running backs but I think motivation is key here.
Jordan Howard +1400
Jordan Howard was sixth in rushing yards last year with 1,122. I think with Mitch Trubisky still learning and developing, the Bears will lean on Howard a little more than 2017. New Head Coach Matt Nagy helped Kareem Hunt come out of nowhere and rush for a league leading 1,327 yards last year. He could probably do the same with Howard. Will 1,300 be enough this year? We shall see…
Melvin Gordon +2000
The AFC West isn’t very good overall but Melvin Gordon definitely took a step forward in being the workhorse in Los Angeles (still not used to that). He had 284 carries last season and I look for that number to get closer to 300+ this year. He has some nice 3 week stretches during the season where he plays a few weak defenses in a row.
Alvin Kamara +4800
With Mark Ingram suspended the first four games of 2018, seems like a great spot for Alvin Kamara to take over lead back duties once and for all. Kamara averaged six yards per carry last year on 120 carries. It’s unlikely he will maintain that YPC but he should definitely be in line for lots of touches this year. It also saves Drew Brees who is getting up in age.
Ronald Jones II +10100
LOTTERY TICKET ALERT! I expect Jones II to be the starter by week 3, overtaking Jacquizz Rodgers/Charles Sims/ Peyton Barber’s spot. This Buccaneer backfield is littered with below average talent. Jones II could change that. Jones compiled 3,600+ yards while at USC on a 6.1 ypc average. I think he can take over and have some big games for Tampa. He reminds me of a faster version of Warrick Dunn. And Buc’s fans could use a second coming of Warrick Dunn right about now.
