As the new season is about to begin let’s take a look at some value odds to hoist Lord Stanley’s cup in June of 2019. The season starts tonight, and everyone is 0-0-0 and tied for first!

The champs getting 10/1, behind three other teams, seems like a great deal here. The Capitals are returning pretty much the same team that just hoisted the cup in June. Ovechkin loved partying with the cup all summer, I’m sure he would love to do it again. Holtby seems to be getting better and better each year. Kuznetsov, Oshie and Backstrom are still strong when healthy. Losing coach Trotz seems like it could be huge but the Caps promoted from within by hiring Todd Reirden. Playing in the Metro is always tough but the Caps have always had much success in the regular season.
The Jets are 12/1 after finishing last year with a franchise record 114 points and a berth in the Western Conference Finals. Winnipeg’s goal this year is to get one step further and reach a cup final for the first time in team history. The Jets have drafted well, as evidenced by their current lineup. Their 2011-2016 1st round picks are all on the current roster. That’s impressive. They’ve got a great young core that is probably bitter at the way last season ended. They lost Paul Stasny to the Golden Knights but he seems like he’s needed more in Vegas than Winnipeg at this point. There’s good value here on the Jets.
I don’t believe the Oilers are quite on the precipice of cup contention just yet, but they are good enough to get to the postseason. They had the league worst power-play % last year but have picked up some scoring options in Tobias Rieder and Kailer Yamamoto. The latter should be on the big club ASAP. With a coach on the hot seat and a team seemingly wasting McDavid’s prime years, look for the sense of urgency to be there with this club. Also, Cam Talbot is a better netminder than his performance last season. Getting a team with the NHL’s best player at 22/1… I like those odds.
This club missed the postseason by only a point. I believe they got better in every position except one… Backup goalie. Carter Hutton is off to Buffalo; meanwhile Chad Johnson will handle backup duty in St. Louis. The additions of Bozakand O’Reilly to center the second and third lines didn’t garner many headlines, but were significant upgrades nonetheless. They have one of the best 1st lines in hockey and Jake Allen is a very streaky goalie who can get this club into contention for a Central title and potentially a cup if he gets hot at the right time. They let his safety net walk, so now it’s time for Allen to be the #1 guy. Not a ton of confidence in this pick but the team is solid.
